ScreenTime Guardian Parent and ScreenTime Guardian Child

Effective date: August 12, 2026

Overview

ScreenTime Guardian is a visible parental-control service. A parent or guardian installs the child app on a device they are authorized to manage, explicitly grants Android permissions, and pairs it with the parent app. The service does not present itself as hidden monitoring software.

Data processed

The parent app processes a parent email address, Firebase user ID, email-verification state, family and pairing records, parent-created app-limit rules, and child-device information described below.

When a child device is paired, the child app processes an anonymous Firebase user ID, the parent-selected device name, device manufacturer and model, time zone, synchronization time, permission status, names and package identifiers of launchable apps, daily aggregate usage durations, and limit status. The child app also stores the parent PIN and screen-time rules locally on the device.

The apps do not collect messages, photos, calls, contacts, precise or approximate location, microphone recordings, camera images, passwords, typed text, taps, or screen contents. The optional Accessibility service receives package-only window-change events to return an expired app to the Home screen. Accessibility data is not stored or uploaded.

Why data is used

Data is used only to authenticate the parent, pair an authorized child device, calculate and display screen-time totals, synchronize parent-created limits, enforce those limits on the child device, maintain security, and respond to support or deletion requests.

Service providers and sharing

Authentication and synchronized data are processed using Google Firebase as a service provider. Google Play services supplies the visible QR-code scanner; ScreenTime Guardian receives only the decoded invitation value and does not receive camera frames. These providers may process technical information needed to operate, secure, and diagnose their services under their own terms and privacy policies.

ScreenTime Guardian does not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. Synchronized child data is available only to the paired, verified parent account and the paired child-device identity, subject to Firebase Security Rules.

Permissions

The child app asks the device user to grant Usage Access to calculate app-use duration, notification permission for the visible ongoing monitor and limit warnings, and optional Accessibility access for stronger blocking. Battery-optimization settings may be changed by the user for reliable monitoring. Each permission can be reviewed or revoked in Android Settings.

Security and retention

Data is encrypted in transit. Firebase Authentication, Firebase Security Rules, and production App Check integration are used to restrict access. The local parent PIN is stored as a salted hash and protected with Android encrypted storage when available.

Local app data remains until it is cleared or the app is uninstalled. Synchronized child-device data remains while the device is paired. Disconnecting or removing a child device deletes its synchronized usage, rules, commands, settings, and device link. Deleting the parent account deletes the account’s family records, invitations, child links, synchronized usage, and parent-created rules. A detached anonymous authentication record may remain without a profile or paired family data if Firebase cannot immediately remove it.

Children and parental responsibility

The service is designed for use by parents and legal guardians. A parent or guardian must install, configure, and use it only on a child device they are legally authorized to manage and must provide any notice or consent required in their location.

Your choices

A parent can disconnect or remove a child device, revoke Android permissions, delete the parent account in the parent app, or request deletion using the account deletion page.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when the apps or legal requirements change. Material updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
